I can't think of a better way to start your day then to take a morning walk in the woods. Woke up saturday morning loaded the dog up and headed out to the woods. I was reminded why I love to spend time in the woods the wildflowers and the birds were both in full swing. We have definetly reached a turning point there is no denying it, boy did I miss the woods . We saw so many birds, but not long after we started our hike we stopped dead in our tracks it was the call of the Pileated woodpecker I could hardly contain myself. I have this problem when I see a special bird I get so excited that I nearly scare it off ! then my hubby gently reminds me to put my feet back on the ground and focus. By that time I am fumbling for the binoculars and the camera that I usually get all tangled up in it all, and by that time the bird has flown off!
So it get's even better ... we saw a Scarlet tanager now that is a special treat. I have only seen this bird one other time at Shades State park, we stood there ever so quietly and admired it's glorious color, wow is that a bright red bird, makes a cardinal look dull. Now there were lots of other birds, actually too many species to even count they were all busy buzzing all over the woods scouting out food sources and prime real estate for their nests. I am truly reminded of how much I love nature, so take some time and get out to the woods and just breathe it all in, it is truly amazing how it re-energizes you & makes your soul happy. Happy birding!
